Homemade Baby Shower Favors

How to make homemade baby shower favors

Baby shower favors are a way of offering guests a small memento in appreciation for them coming to the shower. In addition, the baby shower favor gives something to the soon-to-be parents to have as a keepsake. While you can always buy favors, which range in price from .50 to $10, another option that is more personal and affordable is to make your own. Remember, baby shower favors do not have to be elaborate, just something simple, and fun.

For starters, if you have decent computer skills and a colored printer, you might consider making or printing off bookmarks with a sweet inscription, the date of the shower, the baby’s name if known, or a nursery rhyme. You can then have these laminated inexpensively at most printing shops. To finish the bookmark, use a single-hole punch and through the hole, slip a ribbon, which is then tied off.

You can also make candy necklaces or bracelets. By visiting your local bulk candy store, you will find all types of fun candy such as Sweet Tart pacifiers. Simply string these on thin elastic. Other options are to cut out small squares of baby fabric, about four inches in size. Fill the fabric with colorful jellybeans, red-hot candy, or something similar and again, tie the fabric off. When guests show up, hand out the candy.

You can never go wrong baking something homemade such as brownies, chocolate chip cookies, popcorn balls, pecan tarts, and so on. Wrapped in pink or blue cellophane and tied with a ribbon, these make wonderful favors. You might also consider making your own candles. For this, you can purchase special equipment but it is not necessary. Instead, a heavy-duty saucepan would work fine. You can purchase wax and fragrances at most hobby stores. Then, add food coloring to bring the candles to life. When poured into $2 glass votive jars with a ribbon hot-glued around the rim, you have something special.
